Performed for Eastern Edge Gallery’s annual HOLD FAST Contemporary Arts Festival, “How to smile?” invited festival-goers to join a dangly-armed real-life cartoon human thing named Noodle on a walk in downtown St. John’s and contribute to a large scale smile 🙂
The smile is a familiar expression, something we sometimes force on our faces to show publicly that we’re fine even if we’re not. At the same time, this smile is reflective of the happiness and love I feel for St. John’s as one of my homes. Our emotions are nuanced and complicated and I would like to create space for considering that with this performance.
